Austin Center RADIATION Oncology

Once you are diagnosed and you begin your fight against cancer, it is sometimes hard to know what to expect.  Radiation treatment must be individualized for each patient depending on the size and location of their cancer.  In order to tailor radiation treatment to meet the specific needs of individual patients, the treatment planning process involves several components including:

–          Consultation

–          CT Simulation

–          Treatment Planning

–          Radiation Treatment

–          Physician Follow Up

–          Patient Education and After Care

During treatment planning, your treatment team, consisting of the Radiation Oncologist, Radiation Dosimetrist, and Radiation Physicist will perform special calculations to make sure the proper dose of radiation will be delivered. This may take several days to complete so there is usually a break for the patient in between their CT Simulation and their first day of radiation therapy.
